Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation Opens the Millworks Centre for Entrepreneurship

Sault Ste. Marie, ON (May 20, 2016) – To support small business owners and generate jobs, the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation established the Millworks Centre for Entrepreneurship. The grand opening of the building was held today. Located in the Machine Shop of the former St. Marys Paper site, the facility houses business clients and provides incubation services and direct support to entrepreneurs.

“Studies show that after five years, the success rate for businesses that use incubation services is over 80%, compared to around 33% for non‐incubated companies,” said Dan Hollingsworth, Executive Director of Business Development for the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation. “Given the benefit to local entrepreneurs, along with the local economy in general, the Millworks Centre for Entrepreneurship is a key priority project for our organization and the community.”

The Millworks Centre for Entrepreneurship features the resources and expertise to help businesses reach a high level of operation. The Millworks Centre for Entrepreneurship is supported by all levels of government, including City Council’s Economic Development Fund, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, and FedNor ‐ Industry Canada.

“Entrepreneurship is key to diversifying and growing the economy in Northern Ontario,” said Terry Sheehan, Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie. “The creation of the Millworks Centre for Entrepreneurship is something I spearheaded while on City Council and will offer the important support and tools entrepreneurs in Sault Ste. Marie need to grow. Our government is supporting small business through this project and will continue to do so in the years ahead.”
