Sault Ste. Marie, ON (April 20, 2016) – To help local firms sell their products and services to external markets and capitalize on expansion opportunities, the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation (SSMEDC) is creating enhanced business profiles. The organization is now seeking information from companies to identify specific expertise, knowledge, capacities, competencies and sector strengths. Once compiled, the SSMEDC team will use the data to promote Sault-based businesses, attract investment and identify opportunities for growth.

The SSMEDC is developing enhanced business profiles with support from Northstar Consulting and 8:56 Ltd. Companies can take advantage of the initiative by completing an online survey at http://survey.ssmedc.ca. The SSMEDC is targeting 150 firms with export potential, but all local companies are encouraged to complete the survey, as the information can be used to supplement the organization’s existing business directory.

“The enhanced profiles will provide us with the business intelligence we need to promote Sault Ste. Marie and its capabilities to other companies and industry players, along with Canada’s network of economic development offices in the U.S. and around the world,” said Nevin Buconjic, Manager of Trade, Investment and Community Marketing with the SSMEDC. “We encourage companies to fill out their profile, so that we can help to identify opportunities to strengthen our local businesses and economy.”

The business profiles project is part of Invest Sault Ste. Marie, a three-year program aimed at enhancing the community’s economic development capacity and performance in key sectors. Under the project, the SSMEDC is working to develop a solid foundation towards creating opportunities for local business and enhancing investment attraction programming for the community.

Invest Sault Ste. Marie represents an incremental increase in the SSMEDC’s economic development activities and builds upon efforts to ensure the community is well positioned to attract investment and increase trade opportunities for local companies. The initiative is supported by FedNor – Industry Canada and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation.
