791 ARUNDEL PARKLAND: FINAL VOTE TOMORROW, RALLY AT CITY HALL

0

THUNDER BAY -THIS IS IT.

Tomorrow. August 11. City Hall. 4 – 7 PM.

Tomorrow night, Council decides the fate of 791 Arundel parkland -and with it, whether the larger Boulevard Lake greenspace complex begins to be dismantled piece by piece.

Forever.

All of this comes down to one vote. And there is no safety net.

Changes to Ontario’s Planning Act have largely removed residents’ ability to appeal these planning decisions to the Ontario Land Tribunal. We don’t get to count on fighting this somewhere else afterward.

Tomorrow, Council holds ALL the power. And this should alarm everyone: TBay Greenspace was still showing Councillors relevant City planning documents yesterday. They are about to make a permanent decision on the 791 Arundel parkland while many still do not appear to understand the full development project, the policies surrounding it, or what this decision could set in motion.

At the centre of all of this is Terralux – asking Council to rezone public parkland to make way for its private development. The largest apartment complex in Thunder Bay. In a meadow. When Thunder Bay has identified capacity for thousands of homes without touching parkland.

And remember: the plans identify a potential future access road through the 755 Arundel parkland too. This fight has never been about one meadow. This is about the entire Boulevard Lake greenspace complex and every park, parkette, parkland, and green space in Thunder Bay.

2,624 people signed the petition -nearly 2,000 of those signatures were gathered in just a few days by a small handful of local folks. And those signatures came from across Thunder Bay. People throughout this city care about the Boulevard Lake greenspace complex and want to see it protected. This is not just a Current River issue.

Tomorrow, Council needs to see what 2,624 voices look like. Bring a sign- or one will be provided. Bring your neighbours. Bring your kids. Bring your body.

Fill the sidewalk. Surround City Hall. Be impossible to ignore.

RALLY – TUESDAY, AUGUST 11
