June 2016

An open letter to the attention of:

City of Sault Ste. Marie

Mayor and City Council

99 Foster Drive

Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario P6A 5X6

We are @boredyouthsault. We are an anonymous group of youth who support the “BORED” message. We encourage: 1) citizen communication, 2) to form concrete goals, 3) to mobilize for action, 4) to work together to transform barriers faced by youth living in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. We do NOT support vandalism of private or public property. We have used “BORED” art as a catalyst for change.

Collectively @boredyouthsault believes:

  • The majority of youth (ages 9-24) living in the City of Sault Ste. Marie do not feel engaged; civically, politically, economically or socially.
  • Youth disengagement is a re-occurring theme throughout several decades in the City of Sault Ste. Marie.
  • Citizens and authorities must work together to find innovative and cost effective ways to better the quality of life for youth living in the City of Sault Ste. Marie.

If these points are addressed we believe:

-Youth will have the opportunity to engage civically, politically, economically and socially, in ways that are accessible to them.

-Youth values naturally will be integrated into civic, political, economic and social decision making in the City of Sault Ste. Marie.

-Citizens and authorities, together, will improve the quality of life for people living in the City of Sault Ste. Marie; including but not limited to themes of culture, education, crime rates, economy, poverty and housing.

Thank you for your consideration of the above points.

Respectfully,

@boredyouthsault
