Sault Ste. Marie, ON (May 5, 2016) – Mike Sauve is doing a book signing for his debut novel, The Wraith of Skrellman, which was recently published by California-based Montag Press. Born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, the author is returning to his hometown and will be available at the main branch of the public library on the evening of May 9.

WHAT?            Mike Sauve Book Signing

WHEN?           Monday, May 9 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

WHERE?          Main Branch, Sault Ste. Marie Public Library, 50 East Street

MikeSauveSet against the pomposity of a small-town theatre community, The Wraith of Skrellman is the story of a nearly-delusional, completely-homeless 46-year-old troubadour’s ill-fated pursuit of a beautiful teenage actress, the resentment this breeds in her precocious classmate Dave String, and the wraith of Skrellman who haunts them all with his “pornographic play-by-play” and frequent acts of occult mischief. Elegiac at times, downright smutty at others, it’s like The Virgin Suicides if that book were a little less masterpiece and a whole lot more teen sex romp. Beneath the populist slapstick exists a literary ode to lost youth, and a mordant satire of the social conservatism of small towns.

Praise: “Mike Sauve’s debut novel is half drug-addled Dostoyevsky, half salacious satire. It is as much a bizarre Bildungsroman as it is a cautionary tale about a misspent afterlife and the hilarious travails of adolescence in Canada. The Wraith of Skrellman is unlike anything else you’ve ever read, and the funniest book you’ll read all year.” — Matthew J. Trafford, author of The Divinity Gene.

A former Sault Star reporter, Sauve has written non-fiction for The National Post, Variety, and HTML Giant. His short fiction has appeared in McSweeney’s, Feathertale, Filling Station, and elsewhere. Montag Press will also publish his second novel The Apocalypse of Lloyd later in 2016.
