Tim Mitchell continues to fight for survival after allegedly sustaining grave injuries when he was arrested in his home on March 26th, 2016. Fearful for his father’s well-being that night, Tim’s 14 year old son called 911 to request assistance for his Dad who was intoxicated and was speaking about ending his life.
Tim was brought to the hospital after his arrest and then placed in the custody of the Algoma Remand Centre. On March 28th he returned to the hospital where further tests demonstrated that Tim was suffering 3 broken ribs, a punctured lung and a puncture in the bowel. Tim’s abdomen filled with feces and emergency surgery was required on Sunday, April 3rd. He has been in the Sault Are Hospital Intensive Care Unit in a drug induced coma since.
According to a family member, Tim was showing some small signs of improvements yesterday, his blood pressure medication was lowered. This morning Tim’s medical team attempted to bring him out of his coma but his heart began to fail. Defibrillation (paddles) was required to regulate his heart beat. Tim has been stabilized and remains in a drug induced coma.
A bail hearing is scheduled tomorrow to remove shackles around Tim’s ankles.
Tim is a single father with two children. The family has established a GoFundMe account for Tim and his sons to assist with costs that will be incurred over the course of his recovery –the recovery that the family is praying for. To make a donation readers can CLICK HERE.

ty for the update
SIU is stating only the broken ribs were cause by the officers. Smh
Where was that stated?
the man needs prayer
Is an investigation underway over the handling by officers involved here? This whole episode sounds bad. The poor guy needs help not abuse.
Thankfully the headline wasn’t “man wants to end his life and police officers assist in helping him reach his goal”…
What happened to the days when officers were supposed to “help” instead of “hurt”?
Because of the Northern Hoot exposing this to the public whereas the drive by media Sault Star,Sootoday, Sault online did not report this till after Stephanie Petroni and the staff of Northern Hoot broke this story Northern Hoot is now my homepage.
After eight visits to the SAH Emergency Dept and knowing how they operate.Mr Mitchell did not receive the proper care.He should have been kept in and received MRI and Catscan to ensure that he was OK to be transferred to Algoma Treatment Centre. How do I know this is my wife had a stroke no 7 and after a few hours sent home .She should have been kept in the hospital and properly treated for a stroke. Two days later she had a stroke number 8 which left her speechless and paralyzed on the right side. After eight weeks in the hospital and rehabilitation she was able to walk and talk again mine you she is unable to walk more than five feet.In order for her to get around I move her around in a transporter chair. If she had stay in the hospital after stroke no 7 this may have not happened.
Now back to Mr Mitchell it does not matter what Mr Mitchell history is.I don’t know Mr Mitchell.SAH needs to be held accountable for not looking after Mr Mitchell properly. If Mr Mitchell had been properly looked after at the SAH he would not be in this condition.
Just like my wife Anne if she had been looked after properly after stoke no 7 she would not be confined to a transpoerter chair to get around.
Those police officers who are responsible for Mr Mitchell while in custody need to be charge with assault causing bodily harm.Who else did it .We do have great police officers in this City.it is incidences like this that hurt everyone.
Having worked in corrections for four years in BC.I believe now that the Police did not do this to Mr Mitchell.Looking at Mr Mitchell’s picture if he arrived at the hospital looking like that he would not have been let out and his injuries would have been discovered.I believe that Mr Mitchell receive his injuries at the Algoma Remand Centre while in their custody.Broken ribs and a ruptured lower intestine and a swollen face indicates he was attacked in the Remand Centre. Having worked in a correction facility individuals get beaten for various jailhouse reasons which is part of the prison culture.Mr Mitchell received his injuries by persons he may have encounter while there.Hopefully the truth will come out.
I disagree, there are cameras in the remand center, so there would be evidence of the incident occurring if that were the case. If you read the initial article he was released from the hospital against the attending nurses wishes by the police ( most likely before even being seen by a Dr.) & brought back to the remand centre where he sat for two days before being brought back to the hospital. The above picture is a result of what the injuries he sustained did to his body after laying in the jail for two days without treatment & turned him septic.
From what I read in another article he didn’t arrive looking like that. The swelling you are seeing is a result of being septic, which occurred after his ruptured duodenum leaked into his abdomen. It wouldn’t happen for a bit of time. There were children who witnessed the incident from what previous stories stated, so it’s known where it happened. You may want to go back and read the first article that was written it explains what happened.
I wondered that as well as it’s not posted in any article or on the SIU website last time I checked.
