Get Ready to Eat Algoma!

Sault Ste. Marie, ON  RAIN (Rural Agri -Innovation Network) is pleased to host the 2nd Annual Eat Algoma Local Food Festival and planning is well underway!

This “farm-to-fork” themed event is a unique opportunity to reconnect farmers, restaurants and consumers.

“What a day we’re planning!   We’re excited to welcome MORE restaurants and food service participants for the food portion, who will showcase their skills and talents with appetizer sized portions using local ingredients sourced from area farms.” says Sandra Trainor, Eat Algoma Event Coordinator.

There will also be for sale, a great selection of Ontario Craft brews, VQA wines and Ontario hard ciders along with non-alcoholic choices for the beverage portion of the event.

Live music, a fantastic Farmers’ Market and a children’s activity area will round out the day’s festivities.  This is a family event and the general public is welcome to attend.

Guests are encouraged to buy tickets which are on sale NOW for the food portion.  Last year, tickets sold out and we are expecting the same for this year.

Time: 1 PM – 6 PM

Location: Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre, 50 Pim St. Downtown Sault Ste. Marie, ON

Ticket cost: $30.00 PP

Tickets can be purchased at Scotia Bank Branches at Station Mall, Northern Ave. in Sault Ste. Marie and at the Scotia Bank branch in Blind River.  Tickets can also be purchased at the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre (cash only)

Proceeds generated, will support various projects of RAIN (Rural Agri-Innovation Centre), including ongoing efforts to increase local food production in Algoma, as well as its activities to enhance Algoma agriculture through research, education and marketing.

The “Eat Algoma Local Food Festival” is hosted by RAIN (Rural Agri-Innovation Network). RAIN is a project of the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre and NORDIK Institute.  RAIN works closely with farmers, suppliers, agri-entrepeneurs, Aboriginal and agricultural organizations to conduct research and provide business development and networking support.  RAIN is supported by the agricultural community, municipalities, the private sector (farmers and businesses) and funding partners (Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp., FedNor and Ontario Trillium Foundation)
