Canadian Red Cross gives extra thanks to volunteers during National Volunteer Week
(Sault Ste. Marie, April 10-16, 2016) – This week, the Canadian Red Cross gives extra thanks to its volunteers as part of National Volunteer Week celebrations. The 120-year-old organisation has approximately 20,000 volunteers from coast to coast who choose to donate their time and energy to support the mission of the Canadian Red Cross.
“It is important to say thank you to the over 200 of volunteers who make it possible for the Red Cross to help people here in Sault Ste. Marie and District of Algoma” says Diane Lajambe, District Branch Manager. “Over 1,700 people benefit from Canadian Red Cross programs and services like Seniors Transportation, Disaster Management, Community Kitchens and Meals on Wheels right here in Algoma each year, and that couldn’t happen without volunteers.”
Volunteers make essential contributions to daily operations, and ensure Red Cross is able to provide: prevention and safety training; assistance with emergency and disaster preparedness and recovery; and community health and wellness initiatives.
“Red Cross volunteers and staff work as a tight network across Canada, always ready and willing to help people,” added Lajambe. “On behalf of everyone at the Canadian Red Cross, thank you to all of our volunteers for choosing to use your time and talents to assist the Red Cross and the people we serve.”
Volunteers make valuable, essential contributions to all programs and services carried out by the Canadian Red Cross. Beyond helping others, volunteering also provides an opportunity to meet new people and build skill sets. To identify volunteer opportunities in your community, visit www.redcross.ca/volunteer.
