As the Account Development Manager of the Northern Hoot, my goal is to help grow the website to become Northern Ontario’s favourite journalism source. My role involves building the website’s readership by pursuing marketing avenues and attracting an audience that will fall in love –if they haven’t already, with the site’s content. I also seek to foster relationships with regional businesses that are a good fit for promoting their products and services on this unique website.

Being a regular reader of the Northern Hoot’s articles, I was enthusiastic to join team. I believe in the organization’s research based approach to articles. The stories are relevant and compelling for people living in Northern Ontario and also have a universal connection.

I recognize that there is a distinct gap in the availability of diverse, meaningful content that is specific to the North. I want to be a proactive part of the solution by working towards cultivating a website that actively fills this gap. Sharing Northern Ontario’s stories upon a regional platform, help to form a sense of what it means to be from this great region. I believe this is important and it is what drives me in my role with the Northern Hoot.

I am a recent graduate of the University of Waterloo’s Arts and Business program and currently work in the Sault Area Hospital human resources department. I involved myself in various student and community initiatives and also held a management position with the Waterloo Banking Project – an organization that became Canada’s first student run financial firm. Studying and working in Waterloo, a city known for its innovation prowess, I learned the value of creativity and risk taking in order to achieve goals. I cherish the memories and friends that I made during my studies at Waterloo.

Upon graduation, I returned to Sault Ste. Marie because it is, in every sense, my home. I have developed a concrete appreciation for the values and traditions of Northern Ontario, and am constantly thankful to be able to live in a place as genuine and personable as Sault Ste. Marie. Like most people, I want to make my mark in the region and carve out my niche in the community. I love working, spending time with family and friends, and taking in the natural beauty that this region has to offer.

The Northern Hoot means something to me because it represents the traditions and values of Northern Ontario, the same traditions and values that helped to shape me. Supporting this website is important because it communicates who we are as individuals and as a community. I look forward to sharing the stories of the Northern Hoot with people inside and outside of the region.
