On July 6th, 2017 officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 34 year old James Joseph (J.J.) Hache of Sault Ste. Marie in relation to 2 incidents in the 800-900 block of Queen Street East.
At approximately 12:45 p.m. officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to a call for service regarding what appeared to be human remains found on the waterfront near the old Plummer Hospital property at 969 Queen Street East. The remains have been identified as the body of a deceased infant.
It is alleged that the accused, James Joseph (J.J.) Hache disposed of the deceased body of the child in the St. Mary’s River.
Just before 6:00 p.m. on July 6th, 2017, officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service became involved with a call for service at 864 Queen Street East regarding a male barricaded in a room with a firearm. It is alleged that the accused had possession of the firearm while he is prohibited from possessing weapons.
As a result of this investigation, James Joseph (J.J.) Hache has been charged with;
- One count of possession of a weapon for a dangers purpose under section 88 (1) of the Criminal Code of Canada,
- One count of possession of a weapon while prohibited under section 117.01 of the Criminal Code of Canada, and;
- One count of concealing the body of a child under section 243 of the Criminal Code of Canada.
The accused will appear in bail court today. A post mortem will be conducted on the remains of the deceased, and as this is an ongoing major case investigation no further information will be released at this time.
