Algoma Passenger Train: A Message from Chief of Missanabie Cree First Nation

0

Wachay. The Algoma Passenger Train Working Group recently received a letter from the Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, stating that the remote passenger subsidy would not be continuing between Sault Ste. Marie and Hearst.

On August 18 I was re-elected as Chief of Missanabie Cree First Nation for a three-year term. I am writing this letter as chair of the Algoma Passenger Train Working Group to affirm my continued support for, and commitment to, continuing the work that the working group is doing to ensure the restoration of the passenger service.

I remain optimistic that we will succeed in getting the passenger service—Mask-wa Oo-Ta-Ban (Bear Train)–running. I also encourage all of the Algoma communities and stakeholders to continue their crucial and much appreciated support for this very important undertaking.

In the spirit of community,

Jason Gauthier

Chief of Missanabie Cree First Nation
